Olympus Dss Player Windows 7
I just recently purchased a computer with Windows 7 64-bit home edition for my father. His job requires him to use a digital voice recorder to dictate things and email them in to his company in .dss format. Currently he is using an Olympus DS 330 Voice Recorder to do this on his old Windows XP machine. I called Olympus to make sure the device (an Olympus DS-330 Digital Voice Recorder) would be compatible with Windows 7 BEFORE purchasing the new computer for him. They assured me that 'with version 7.1 of their new software it should be compatible'. I was worried because the rep on the phone with me didn't sound very confident in his answer and him using the word 'should' is never a good thing.
Sure enough I got the new Windows 7 computer running, installed the software they told me to get from their site, connected his player... The device was recognized as being connected BUT no driver could be found. Nothing I've tried the past few hours will work as there just simply is no driver from Olympus or anyone else to make this device work with Windows 7. To make matters worse I cannot find a single digital voice recorder to purchase for him online that IS compatible with Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit.
I thought that this OS wasn't suppose to have any of the 'driver issues' that brought Vista down. Clearly this isn't the case. Now I'm stuck with a computer my father can't use simply because Windows 7 doesn't seem to find Digital Voice Recorders to be important enough to work with. Anyone have any idea of a voice recorder that will work with windows 7? Yes I looked at that 'Windows Compatibility' website... no luck. So if I can't find one... Looks like we're out $500 thanks a ton Olympus and Windows 7!
